I have been suffering with a thyroid problem for nearly 10 years. I have been taking Eltroxin every day, and with the passing years, my dosage has slowly gone up.

About 3 years ago, I went to a doctor who asked me to reduce my dosage from 100 mg a day to 75 mg, which I did. Over the years, I have been having attendant problems like putting on weight, discoloration (blackening) of my skin etc.

I am now 38 years old, and am overweight at 5'2" and 78 kgs.

3 months ago, I went to Apollo to have my master check-up done. As part of the heath check-up, when I had my thyroid test done, I was shocked to find that my results were much above the normal range. You can see below the results from my test:

Over the past 2 months, I have been doing daily exercises under the guidance of Mr. Subramanyam. After 2 months of yoga, I decided to check my thyroid again. I went to Apollo and found the results were truly astounding. See them for yourself:

In this period, my weight too has dropped dramatically, I have lost 6 kgs. and am now weighing only 72 kgs.

I am feeling completely healthy and happy and would strongly recommend anyone troubled by thyroid problems to take up yoga therapy with Mr. Subramanyam.

I have suffered from chronic back pain from the age of 17 when I accidentally hurt myself playing football. Initially, I used to get debilitating pain only when I was ill and strained myself excessively. Also, this incident changed my lifestyle from active to passive and ever since I have steadily gained weight.

I am now 42. I am now obese weighing 110 kgs at 5'11", and I find that even if I stand for an hour or so, I get the debilitating pain in my lower back. My back pain and my over-weight act on each other – making it worse. Having tried various diet routines, only to find that I gained back the lost weight the moment I went back to my "normal" diet – I decided to try and change my lifestyle!

I decided to take up YOGA!

I knew Mr. Subramaniam through my parents and he had already helped a few people I knew to take care of specific chronic issues – migraine etc. and approached him to take care of my excess weight as well as my back pain.

I really appreciated Mr. Subramaniam's scientific approach from the start – he asked me to take a health-check to know exactly what all was wrong with me. He also quizzed me extensively on my current lifestyle and eating habits.

My health check showed thankfully that I was ok, mostly. However, my blood sugar was above normal and my LDL cholesterol and triglycerides too were above normal. The doctor told me to reduce my weight (as if I didn't know that) and felt that in 6 months, if the blood sugar, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides did not correct themselves, he would have to put me on medication.

Mr. Subramaniam gave me a balanced diet to follow, as well as put me through a specific set of yogasanas as treatment for me. I have been following this diet and doing the asanas for the past 1 month – I was extremely stiff, my back very weak and I was quite incapable of doing even simple asanas, even sitting on the floor!

Slowly, Mr. Subramaniam has managed to make me do at least some basic yoga for 1 hour a day, 6 days a week for the past 1 month.

In this time, I have lost 4.5 kgs, and when I did a follow-up test for my blood sugar and lipid profile, I found that the blood sugar was now well within the normal range and my LDL cholesterol too has reduced significantly. See the results below:

MY PERSONAL HEARTFELT OPINION ABOUT THE YOGA LEARNING AND PRACTISING FROM MY MASTER MR. K SUBRAMANYAM A QUALIFIED YOGA THERAPIST.

INTRODUCTION:

I have been strongly recommended by my family doctor Mr T N Krishnamurthy MD to undergo the Yoga classes.

I have been suffering from asthma for many years and hence decided to take up the classes.The results which i enjoyed since July to Nov 2010 I strongly feel like expressing.

EXPERIENCE:

Eventhough i had attended a few courses earlier conducted by Isha yoga and Art of Living, it was not so focused and programmed for a specific individual.

Under the guidance of Yoga Therapist Mr K Subramanyam i started learing and practising in a programmed manner and each posture with the relevant breathing is taught and monitored.

I also have the habit of grinding teeth during sleep. To this issue, i was asked to practise a specific type of breathing coupled with producing " HMMMMM " sound. This resulted in reducing my grinding of teeth complaint to a very large extent. Within a short span of one month, i realized i am on the right track of learning and practising Yoga.

The Yoga teacher is very systematic and follows the proven procedure and hence i found this is a BOON to me and i should develop this art to keep me mentally and physically fit.

BENEFITS:

I used to have an arch type posture due to the ill effects of asthma which i suffered in the past. Presently i am having excellent health, need not take any medicine but for using the inhaler very occasionally. My body structure or the frame work of my Chest is more straight and i am proud to mention this. I have also gained some weight. The Yoga teacher also trained me to do nasal cleansing which proved to be very effective.

CONCLUSION:

My opinion - This young upcoming yoga therapist is capable of contributing a LOT FOR GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPY LIVING.

I sincerely take this opportunity to spread this message, A few of my friends are enjoying better health because of my reference

MY PERSONAL HEARTFELT OPINION ABOUT THE YOGA LEARNING AND PRACTISING FROM MY MASTER MR K SUBRAMANYAM A QUALIFIED YOGA THERAPIST.

INTRODUCTION:

I was suffering due to Rheumatic pain, ENT issues like sneezing, nose blocking and was also taking mild cardiac tablets. My doctor Shri T N Krishnamurthi used to very often insist me to Learn yoga, when he came to know that i am taking lot of medicine prescribed by various specialist for my health complaints.

I was only feeling better at times with medicine, but very many times i suffered. Then i had to necessarily take the suggestion from my family doctor T N Krishnamurthy to learn yoga. I decided so and took up the classes from July 2010.

EXPERIENCE:

It was not so easy for me to learn the various postures and breathing procedure. I strongly took up the classes and my daily practice under the guidance of the Yoga therapist Mr K Subramanyam gave me a hope that i can perform better and improve. Now it is close to four months if am confident and feel far better health wise. He also combined Cleansing of stomach and nasal with salt water, which proved very effective for De-toxic the body.

BENEFITS:

My body is relatively more flexible and fit now. I have stopped taking medicines for Rhuematism and ENT. Presently no complaints of these ailments. I continue to take the cardiac tablets which i have to check with the Cardialogist for reducing or avoiding those medicines. In 4 months if feel my body more lighter and do get good sleep. Pain level in areas like low back, shoulders and fingers not there at all. There is only a mild pain in the thigh area.

CONCLUSION:

It is a surprise for me to realise the improvement and the credit goes to the Doctor Mr T N Krishnamurthy who suggested. The truth is the Yoga master took specific care and efforts to make me do the Yoga slowly, properly and effectively. The results of which are wonderful.

I am a 75 year old retired official living in Chennai.

I developed angina in 1990 and later had a mild heart attack in October 1999. My weight was 73 kgs in 1990 and I reduced it by 8 kgs to 65 kgs, but gradually it increased over time and currently I weigh in at 75 kgs.

By chance, about 18 months back, I met Mr. Subramanyam at Mangalore, where he did his M.Sc. in Yoga and was working in the same college. He took interest in me (and my wife, who is also obese) and he gave me a short-term (15 day) yoga course to reduce angina and to reduce my weight.

I experienced a marked improvement in angina and in my weight-loss but somehow we were not regular in our yoga routine.

About a month back, we met Mr. Subramanyam at Chennai and he made a very detailed case study and gave us a revised yoga course as well as a specific diet to follow.

For the past 35 days I have meticulously followed the set course and diet and I have found a marked improvement in the following:

  1. Reduction in weight by 4.5 kgs.
  2. Marked receding of my stomach.
  3. Improved breathing.
  4. Angina reduced very much.
  5. Constipation reduced almost completely.

I have been practicing yoga Therapy under the guidance of yoga therapist Mr. Subramanyam.K for the last 6 months. He is taking personal training sessions for me.

I am a 50 years old male and was suffering from Hypertension since 5 years, negative thinking, borderline diabetes and overweight. Before practicing of yoga my weight; 86 kg. BMI;26, B.P;160/100mmHg. I had tried the modern treatments and also took treatment from Jindal Nature Cure Institute of yoga in Bangalore.

After undergoing yoga therapy; within a month so, I am relieved of my hypertension and negative thinking. After 2 months of practice I become completely free from hypertension, negative thinking, and borderline diabetes and overweight. I reduced 3 kg of weight even though I did not follow my diet properly which given by the therapist. After practicing of yoga my weight;83 kg, BMI;25, B.P; 120/80 mmHg.

I am so happy with the progress of my recovery.

At the outset I would like to thank Mr. Raman for referring Mr. Subramanyam to me. I had allergic bronchitis which used to last up to two months when ever there was an attack. I was taking steroids (as tablets and later on as inhaler). When I met Mr. Subramanyam, I told him about it and he assured me that within a month I would be able to see the result. I also had low back pain and migraine.

Today, nearly after two and a half months of doing yoga under the personalized guidance of Mr. Subramanyam, I am very happy to say I have not had any attack of allergic bronchitis so far. Every day we go about doing our work in a routine manner and we fail to notice that we hardly breathe properly. Pranayama has brought about so many internal changes within me. I feel more relaxed, my anxiety levels have come down and I am able to sleep more peacefully.

I now begin the day with an enthusiastic mind and feel energetic throughout the day. The pain in the lower back of the body and migraine has reduced to a great extent.

I would definitely recommend Mr. Subramanyam to anybody who wants to learn yoga therapy and benefit from it. I wish him good luck in all his future endeavours.

I, Sumitra Prakesh, 52 years old House wife was suffering from severe pain and numbness in my heels and toes since 5 months. This severely restricted my physical activity to such an extent that. I Mrs. T. Vasantha Kumari age 63 years , W/o Dr.T.N. Krishnamurthi am suffering from Diabetes Mellitus since 1996 with Osteo Arthritis Right Knee and later developing Hypertension in 2001 and Angina in the form of Breathlessness(Dyspnoea) on exertion. I am taking tablets for Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension and Cardiac diseases and for past 2 years suffering from Corn on Right foot with chronic painful ulcer with Neuropathy difficult in walking, surgery twice for the same done without any improvement.

Since 1st Dec 2009 I am taking Yoga therapy regularly 6/7 till date. My Insulin drug requirement has come down and my corn foot has healed well. Drug requirement for B.P also is reduced.

Totally my quality of day to day life has improved definitely.

My experience with yoga as a physician

Yoga provides the movements of the body and respiration which we usually don't do much in civilized routine living. First of all, take deep breathing in and out during Yoga asana and pranayama. We normally do moderate inspiration and never do even moderate expiration i.e. breathing out. In pranayama we do deep breathing in and out that helps all the systems of our body, for males Abdominal muscles and for females chest muscles expand very well comparing to normal or even at times of quick breathing during our routine life. This method increases venous return (i.e. unoxygenated blood) to right side of our heart where atrial node is present in junction of major vein to Rt upper chamber of heart. Sinoatrial node (S.A. node) is an important nerve head of heart where pulse (Beating) originates. This node regulates number rhythm of pulse and volume of pulse.

Physical advantages of yoga

Certain cardiac patients and most of elderly individuals have Tachycardia due to disease or drugs. They may have unwanted poor volume of pulse or irregular beatings of heart. Yoga practices have big role in regulating the unwanted maladies which are not experienced by such individuals. So, these people cardiac (Heart) function such as contractility of chambers will optimally improve. With these advantages one can prevent sudden death. This is the first important aspect of yoga to have healthy heart.

Second advantage of yoga is respiratory improvement. Lung breathing capacity especially FEV (Forced Expiratory Volume) is increased. Therefore, Tidal volumes of respiratory phases are much better and there is reduction of residual air which prevents lobar pneumonia, COPD (Chronic Obstructive pulmonary Diseases) and Lower Respiratory infection. Less carbon dioxide in lungs promotes alertness and avoids drowsy, sleeping during daytime in sitting position. There will be minimal secretions and phlegm in lower respiratory system.

Equally upper respiratory system is also cleansed well with obstructive nostrils become more ventilated promoting less incidence of sinusitis and head ache with resulting complication of poly- arthrtlgia (Joint pains), throat, dental and Ear infections.

T.M. Transcendental meditation twice a day relieves Mental, stress and Anxiety which in turn result in psychiatric illnesses, excess irritability, anger, insomnia, intolerance etc. even psycho-somatic diseases like peptic ulcer, skin diseases (urticaria, psoriasis, neuro dermatitis), tension headache, asthmatic illnesses frequent aerophagia and belching etc. organic cerebral circulation is increased. Regarding shirsasana two views are present. It is definitely forbidden in high BP. Individuals and elderly after 50 years. Even in some loner percentage of apparently normal young individuals, cerebral vessels may be born (congenital) abnormalities such as arterio-venous angioma , dilated terminal blood vessels (aneurysm) e.g, berry aneurysms, such persons may go in for cerebral haemorrage and instant death after ( Standing on Head) shirsasana.

There is good improvement in Digestive and Hepato. Renal (liver & kidney) organs functions in form of gas movements, urine output, abdominal distension & bile control. Certain asanas improve pancreatic ability and mitigate Diabetes disease resulting nearer sugar control and secondary kidney involvement is prevented.

Locomotor system means Bones, Muscles and Joints all over the body from neck to Heels. Vertigo and postural giddiness due to neck bone diseases can be avoided.

In our body spinal muscles form bulk of our muscular system. They are broad strong long muscles with ligaments extending from neck to low back. Routinely we are not using all the movements of these muscles in our civilized routine life. Most of the Asanas make the muscles to work by twisting, extending and bending the body so that back pains, are not common when Yoga practiced regularly. Most of the joints are made to do all the movements which are not usually done during our daily life of movements. Hence unused or partly used muscles and joints become rigid. Such muscles and joints are not practiced regularly become more rigid, resulting in more body pain. Though walking is good, this rigidity and abdominal obesity improve with. Yoga only.
